MCAA Principal Jumps For Marietta Reads! AR Challenge, May 23
![]() Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) principal, Dr. Karen Smits promised her students that she would jump from an airplane if her students met their Marietta Reads! Accelerated Reader (AR) goal for the year. On Sunday, May 23, Dr. Smits joined by MCAA Media Specialist, Susan Foster and MCS Instructional Technology Specialist, Stacey Buckalew jumped from 14,000 feet in Cedartown, GA. Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin presented the Mayor’s Award to fifth grade student, Eli, an outstanding MCAA student for three years.Marietta Reads! MCAA Students Place - Elementary Science Olympiad, May 17![]() ![]() Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) students recently competed in the Elementary State Science Olympiad at Kennesaw State University. The MCAA teams were among 63 schools statewide to compete. MCAA placed 3rd in Deep Blue Sea and Which Way is North, 4th in Aerodynamics, 5th in Water Rockets, and 7th in Don't Bug Me Space Day 2010, May 11 ![]() On Tuesday, May 11, Marietta Center for Advanced Academics joined with more than 500 other schools around the world by signing Student Signatures in Space® posters to celebrate Space Day 2010. Over 350 students, staff, parents and community members signed the poster at MCAA. The school’s signatures will fly aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor launch on July 29. MCAA will receive a flight certificate and photo of the astronauts following the mission. Photos» |
Sparkles Marietta Reads! Party, May 5![]() Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) students who met or exceeded their Marietta Reads! goal recently celebrated at Sparkles with a skating party. To participate, MCAA 3rd graders had to earn a minimum of 110 Accelerated Reader (AR) points, 4th graders had to earn at least 120 AR points, and 5th graders 140 AR points. About 85 students earned the Sparkles incentive and enjoyed two hours of free skating thanks to the MCAA PTSA. Photos» MCAA Students Dissect Sharks, Apr. 27 ![]() Marietta Center for Advanced Academics fifth graders recently dissected sharks as the culminating project for their Oceanography unit. They examined the interior and exterior anatomy of dogfish sharks and performed experiments. MCAA teachers Mrs. Dodd, Mrs. Hutchinson, and Mrs. Reisenauer guided the students through the dissection process. Photos» MCAA Hosts Family STEM Night, Apr. 26 ![]() Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) recently hosted a Family science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) night. Representatives from the Museum of Aviation set up 15 interactive stations for families to explore STEM activities including Silly Slime, Kitchen Chemistry, Spaghetti Structures, 3-2-1 Blastoff, Invincible Balloon, and Popping Pepper.
