Curriculum
Georgia Standards of Excellence
The foundation of the curriculum at MCAA is the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). These state-adopted standards provide each grade level and subject area specific standards for mastery. Teachers adapt instruction to meet each student’s individual needs.
Our students are active participants in the classroom, using the 4 C’s (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity) to propel their learning to new levels. Teachers follow the Workshop Model Instructional Framework to ensure a student-centered learning environment.
Our STEM/STEAM units engage students with Project-Based Learning (PBL) as an extension of the content areas. Students construct their own answers and innovative solutions to challenging, authentic, driving questions that meet real world needs in our community/world. This gives students more opportunities to have increased voice and choice in how they learn while gaining a deeper understanding of their content. Students also have opportunities to collaborate with community partners and in-field experts to learn new skills, receive feedback, and even create solutions as they engage in our STEM/STEAM units.
